The claim
Limited edition cheeseburger Oreos!!
What the fact-checkers found
An image that has circulated via social media since 2015 has some hard-core Oreos fan salivating with excitement while others shudder with revulsion (not really).
The image depicts a packet of ‘Limited Edition Cheeseburger Oreos’, allegedly made with ground beef.
But, alas for more adventurous cookie lovers, Cheeseburger Oreos are not real and won’t be hitting supermarket shelves anytime soon. The image is just a prank.
The image comes from a YouTube video – called Will It Cookie? – Cheeseburger Oreo – created by the crew at Reckless Eating, a YouTube Channel that invites viewers to watch ‘a bunch of friends eat weird stuff’ (see embedded video below).
Reckless Eating acknowledges the prank in a post on their Facebook Page :
Lots of people are linking me to the cheeseburger oreo picture floating around online. We know the person who made it and did it ourselves. The picture is of course fake lol.
The prank is similar to an earlier hoax image that supposedly depicted Fried Chicken Oreos.
