What the fact-checkers found

The claims in the report are untrue. There are no credible news sources that support the claim that Usain Bolt has been involved in a serious car accident or has been hospitalised. The bogus report comes from a clickbait fake-news website called “NetLiveMedia”. Nothing published on the site should be taken seriously.

According to a “breaking news” report that is currently circulating via social media, supreme athlete Usain Bolt has been involved in a serious car accident. Supposedly, Usain is in a critical condition in a London hospital. The report features a photograph depicting a mangled BMW on a roadway.

However, the claims in the report are untrue. Usain Bolt has not been involved in a serious car accident and he is not in a London hospital. There are no credible news articles that support the claims in the story in any way.

In fact, the bogus report comes from a fake-news website called “NetLiveMedia”. The site specialises in churning out sensationalised and mostly made up nonsense that it presents in news format, apparently for the purpose of attracting more visitors and shares and thereby generating more revenue for the site owners. The site does not include any disclaimer that might alert readers that its articles are not real news.

The car accident image used in the fake article has been circulating in other contexts since at least 2009. The vehicle has no connection to Usain Bolt.

Given the number of nonsensical stories disguised as news that circulate online, it is always a good idea to verify any celebrity death or accident reports that come your way before you share them. Searching an online news portal such as Google News will usually reveal if a circulating celebrity death or injury report is true.

Of course, if a high-profile person such as Usain Bolt was really involved in a serious accident, news of the event would be covered extensively by mainstream news outlets around the world.
