No, Morrisons is Not Giving Everyone a Free £85 Coupon

According to a post currently being shared on Facebook, you can click to get a free voucher worth £85 from UK supermarket chain Morrisons. Supposedly, the company is giving one voucher to everyone who participates as a means of celebrating its anniversary.

However, the post is fraudulent. No vouchers are being given away and the post has no connection to Morrisons.

In fact, the post is a typical Facebook scam designed to trick you into spamming your Facebook friends and divulging your personal information on dodgy survey websites.

Here’s how the scam works.

This post appears on your news feed:

You click on the post in the hope of getting your free voucher and are asked to fill in a survey about shopping at Morrisons:

After completing the survey, the page will pretend to check your answers and then inform you that have indeed won the promised prize:

Next, you will be told that you must share the supposed giveaway on Facebook as well as send the page to 15 of your friends. By completing these two steps, you expose your friends to the scam and help the scammers promote their fake giveaway:

After completing these two steps, you can then click a button that supposedly allows you to collect your free coupon.

However, you will then be told that you must complete even more surveys before getting your coupon. You will be presented with a list of links to various surveys hosted on other websites.

These sites will ask you to provide your name and contact details, supposedly in order to enter the draw for further prizes. But, fine print on the pages will state that your personal information will be shared with site sponsors and third-party marketing companies.

So, you will soon begin receiving unwanted and annoying phone calls, text messages, emails, and letters that try to get you to buy various products and services.

And, no matter how many surveys you complete, you will never receive the promised coupon, which never existed to begin with.

Survey scams like this one are very common on Facebook. Be wary of any post that claims that you can get store coupons or other valuable prizes just by sharing and filling in surveys.
