What the fact-checkers found

According to a post that is being shared on Facebook, you can win a children’s outdoor playhouse just by liking and sharing the post, adding the comment “done”, and liking the originating Facebook Page.

Here’s what the post looks like:

But, alas, the supposed giveaway is a typical Facebook like-farming scam. The Facebook Pages that the post comes from are not giving away the promised prize and those who participate have no chance whatsoever if winning anything at all.

The very same giveaway post has appeared on several different scam Facebook Pages in recent weeks.

The bogus giveaway is designed to accumulate large numbers of Facebook likes as quickly as possible. Once the Page using the bogus giveaway post has collected a large number of likes, it can then be reused to launch other types of scam.

Or, it might be sold on the black market to other scammers. The more likes a Facebook Page has acquired the more it can be sold for.

Like-farming scams continue to be very common on Facebook. There many versions, all offering different prizes as bait to potential victims. Other versions offer tech gear, store coupons, holidays, cars, and even houses as prizes. None of the promised prizes actually exist and there are no winners other than the scammers themselves.
